National Association of Professional Women Announces Kathleen Surette, Operating Room Nurse/Owner, Surette Legal Nurse Consultants, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) November 04, 2014 -- NAPW honors Kathleen E. Surette, R.N., B.A., M.S.N., CNOR, CLNC, as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in nursing. As the largest networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“I started playing the piano when I was four. I told people I was a ‘musician’ but that I also wanted to be a ‘physician,’" recalls Ms. Surette.
As an undergraduate, Ms. Surette studied pre-med and earned her BA at Merrimack College but since going to medical school was not something girls did back then, she did the next best thing and went to nursing school. “I couldn’t become a Surgeon so I became an Operating Room Nurse,” says Ms. Surette, who received her M.S. in Nursing from Anna Maria College. For more than 30 years, she has worked next to surgeons in the operating rooms, skillfully administering expert care to patients. Throughout her career, she has also shared her knowledge with students as an educator at both the diploma and collegiate levels.
For the past seven years, in addition to her many years as an Operating Room Nurse who specializes in urology, Ms. Surette has been the Owner of Surette Legal Nurse Consulting Service. “I’m passionate about patients getting the care they deserve, so as a Legal Nurse Consultant, I can use my skills and knowledge to do just that,” she says. With her clinical and managerial expertise, along with her teaching skills, Ms. Surette is able to advise and support attorneys - and their clients - on a variety of medical issues.
As for the future, Ms. Surette looks forward to eventually retiring from the operating room and devoting more of her time to advocating for patients through her growing consulting business. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Surette is also an avid crafter, who enjoys needlepoint, knitting, crocheting and recently, quilting.
