National Association of Professional Women Inducts Lisa Ferrara, Ph.D., CEO of OrthoKinetic Technologies, Into its VIP Professional Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 26, 2015 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Lisa Ferrara, Ph.D., as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in biomedical engineering. NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
"I'm pleased to welcome Lisa into this exceptional group of professional women," said NAPW President Star Jones. "Her work in the STEM field is sure to inspire young girls and women to choose this career path."
Dr. Ferrara, CEO of OrthoKinetic Technologies (OKT) / OrthoKinetic Testing Technologies (OKTT), began her career in biomedical engineering in academic research. Today, nearly 26 years later, she is a well-respected leader in the field who has worked with the FDA and device manufacturers; serves on numerous boards; teaches and mentors surgeons, engineers and scientists; and heads two major corporations that together help clients successfully market a medical device.
“When I started in this profession, I was challenged with the task of presenting research and lecturing on topics in bioengineering and biomechanics to seasoned and highly accomplished professionals. I am now invited to lecture and share the podium with these colleagues,” she said.
In her current role, Dr. Ferrara expertly leads a team of top professionals who collaborate to ensure clients have the resources they need to meet their goals. “OKT and OKTT often work together to provide a client with a turn-key approach for taking the concept of a new medical device through all of the necessary steps to bring the device to market,” she explained.
Despite facing the challenges of being a woman in an industry populated mostly by men, Dr. Ferrara said she never felt hindered, as proven by her impressive list of accomplishments. “The continued exposure to male-dominated fields in engineering and medicine allows me to meet new colleagues, and we learn from each other,” she said. Inspired by hard-working parents, Dr. Ferrara was mentored early in her career by renowned spine surgeon, Dr. Hansen Yuan. She, in turn, continues to generously share her expansive knowledge and skills with students and colleagues alike.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve. Through innovative resources, unique tools and progressive benefits, professional women interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other.
