National Association of Professional Women Inducts Elizabeth D. Austin, Major General ADCG-ARNG-AMC at the Army National Guard, Into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) March 15, 2016 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Elizabeth D. Austin as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in the Armed Forces. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Elizabeth into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her service to our country is inspiring and invaluable.”
While looking for funding for her college education, Elizabeth D. Austin found her way to the Army National Guard. She steadily rose through the ranks, earning a promotion to Brigadier General in 2011, followed by a move to her current position of Major General (MG) in 2014. When she assumed that role, MG Austin became the highest-ranking female within the North Carolina division of the National Guard.
MG Austin assumed a multitude of job duties with her new ranking. “I am the Senior Army National Guard officer assigned to Army Material Command, and Principle Advisor to the Commanding General and Deputy Commanding General on all matters impacting the Army National Guard,” she said. “I am also the liaison to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and Director on all Army Material Command matters.”
Utilizing her expertise in leadership and logistics, MG Austin tries to mold the soldiers and civilians coming in behind her. “The most challenging part of my job is to make sure I am there to be the mentor that I never had,” she said. “I have a very busy schedule and often times I feel like I am not spending enough time at the soldier level so that I can mentor.” However, MG Austin is rewarded when her mentorship has clearly paid off. “There is nothing like seeing your team members do great things,” she said.
In looking to the future, MG Austin plans to retire from the military within two years to spend more quality time with her husband.
