Garden City, NY (PRWEB) December 16, 2014 -- NAPW honors Barbara K. Jacobson, R.N., M.S.N., as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Jacobson is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in nursing. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 local chapters.
“I knew from the time I was 9 years old that I wanted to be a nurse,” says Ms. Jacobson. In addition to fulfilling her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse, Ms. Jacobson went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
As Chief Nurse Executive at Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska, Ms. Jacobson uses the expansive nursing skills she honed as she amassed more than 25 years of experience in the field. She provides strategic leadership and project management skills as she oversees the nursing staff and ensures patients receive the best care possible. “I help drive the corporate goals, improve patient safety and satisfaction, implement and maintain electronic health records, mentor nurses, improve population health and work with the state Board of Nursing and the state of Alaska to reduce redundancy in background checks for licensing,” says Ms. Jacobson.
By creating and implementing a local Certified Nursing Aide course, Ms. Jacobson has been instrumental in training healthcare workers in her rural community. In addition to mentoring and guiding qualified and caring nurses, she plans to continue to foster her own belief in the importance of being a lifelong learner by furthering her own education. “Learning does not stop when one graduates; there is something to be learned every day,” says Ms. Jacobson. “My long-term goal is to achieve a Doctorate in Nursing.”
