She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in providing hand made apparel and home accents. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“It gives me great pleasure to present Claudia with this important honor,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “I applaud her for using her expertise to build a successful business enterprise.”
In December of 2003, Claudia Mendez utilized her expertise in finance to found her own business, Orígenes Bolivia SRL. Prior to the company’s inception, Ms. Mendez applied her Economics degree from the University of Texas at Austin to a career as a Financial Analyst.

In addition to boasting strong values, the company hosts workshops on topics ranging from workplace safety ethics to health issues.
“Over 85% of our artisans are Bolivian women of Aymara origin,” Ms. Mendez said. “Most of the women artisans working with us do so from home. This allows them to take care of their kids and family while earning an income.”
With two retail shops in Bolivian airports, an online catalogue of handmade items and private label services, Orígenes Bolivia SRL proudly produces a variety of sweaters, scarves, shawls, other knit accessories and decorative home furnishings. The company is also looking to expand its operations to the US market in the near future.
