Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- NAPW honors Natalie W. Geary, M.D., F.A.A.P., Owner and President of Private Pediatrics of Palm Beach as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized for leadership in pediatrics and family care with this prestigious distinction. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
Thirty years ago, before opening her private medical practice in New York City, Dr. Geary traveled the world helping underserved populations. That was when medical anthropology was a little known field. During that time, Dr. Geary promoted children’s health, improving access to care from Malawi to New Mexico. She trained and practiced Ayurvedic medicine in India and did her thesis research comparing the healthcare beliefs and utilization practices in cancer patients at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai and Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City.
As an American doctor working in foreign lands, Dr. Geary learned first-hand how much work there was to be done for underserved populations. After several years in a hospitalist practice in New York City, she moved to New Mexico to work in a hospital-based clinic to study public health. It was a move that inspired her to establish a nonprofit called Mobile Pediatrics in New Mexico where she drove into the small towns of northern New Mexico to screen children and give them vaccines. Dr. Geary continued balancing her private practice in NYC and working for her nonprofit organizations around the world.
Today, Dr. Geary is Owner and President at Private Pediatrics of Palm Beach, which specializes in pediatrics and family care. She received her M.D. in medicine from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is currently involved with the Medical Society of New York and the Medical Society of Florida.
