NAPW honors Janet Hays-Forbes as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Hays-Forbes is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in information technology. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“I took early retirement back in 2006,” says Ms. Hays-Forbes. “Then I was rehired, so I’ve been working at AT&T for more than 30 years, back when it was Pacific Bell!”
When she first retired, Ms. Hays-Forbes, who has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting & Management from California State University, Dominquez Hills, did not stop working for long. She took on the role of Consultant with the telecommunications conglomerate, and spent the next 15 years using her vast industry expertise in methods and procedures, data analysis, data conversion, user acceptance testing, training, billing and usage. “As a Consultant, I traveled around the US and the world. But then I was ready to settle down, so when they offered me this position, I was ready,” says Ms. Hays-Forbes, whose current title is Sr. Requirements Management-IT. “I write business and system requirements for applications. Before I managed people, now I just manage myself.”
In another year or two, Ms. Hays-Forbes will retire, this time for good she says, and hopes to travel. She is actively involved in her church and plans to continue to teach Christian education at the church’s school.
