The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Debra J. Touchton as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in higher education. NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
"I'm pleased to welcome Debra into this exceptional group of professional women," said NAPW President Star Jones. "Her work as an educator and advocate for women and girls is inspiring."
“I have been in the education business for more than 35 years," said Dr. Touchton, Associate Professor of the Educational Leadership graduate programs at Stetson University in Florida. "My passion is teaching, research and leadership development of women and girls. I believe strongly in education as the true equalizer and have dedicated my life's work to it.”
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Touchton, who has a Ph.D. in Education from the University of South Florida, has been an advocate for women and girls, particularly those who are affected by poverty. She knows the important role education plays when it comes to improving the lives of the less advantaged. She has devoted her professional life to ensure all women and girls have access to mentoring programs, academic institutions and the ability to take on leadership roles.
In addition to her teaching, Dr. Touchton conducts research that focuses on leadership and organizational development, women in leadership and the effects of poverty on teaching and learning. She is currently creating a leadership center for women and girls, and she plans on starting a consulting business in the next few years focusing on leadership communication.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve. Through innovative resources, unique tools and progressive benefits, professional women interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other.
