As Owner of Harlem’s premier salon of beauty in New York City, Paula Dowds has succeeded in building a reputation as a successful business owner and the foremost instructor of beauty in one of the most famous neighborhoods in the country.

Ms. Dowds' first Harlem salon, Ruby’s Beauty Palace, opened for business decades ago and became an immediate success. By 2008, Ms. Dowds branched out and founded Ms. P’s Hair Studio, LLC. Well-equipped with a professional staff of stylists, the salon also boasts an impressive list of ongoing community activities and relationships.

Today, with her growing popularity, Ms. Dowds has become more than a business owner—she is a prominent instructor to hopeful stylists and a respected community advocate. She has received countless awards, including the Vision and Leadership Award from Harlem Hospital and the Partner in Career and Technical Education Award by the New York City Department of Education. Ms. P’s Hair Studio has also been featured on nationally televised shows such as NBC’s The Jay Leno Show, Discovery Channel’s Construction Intervention and Extreme Job Swap, which aired overseas.
