NAPW Bakersfield, CA Chapter Finalized Plans in June for Christmas in July Vendor Fair on July 13th at Maya Cinemas
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- Members and guests of the NAPW Bakersfield, CA Local Chapter gathered on June 12th for a professional networking meeting at The Links at Riverlakes Ranch.
The group of professional women put final plans in place for their Christmas in July Vendor Fair that will be held on July 13th at Maya Cinemas. Proceeds for the event will benefit Children’s Miracle Network. Sheri Horn Bunk, Executive Director of Taft College Foundation, was the guest speaker for the evening.
NAPW Bakersfield Local Chapter President Janelle Capra opened the meeting by warmly welcoming all attendees. After inviting one of the Chapter’s newest members to read the NAPW Mission and Brand Promise, the President addressed the group.
“NAPW is nearly 400 chapters strong with close to 500,000 members from all across the United States,” said President Capra. “Our Chapter is continuing to grow and I encourage all members to check out napw.com to connect with other members through such sites as NAPW’s Community Wall.”
Chapter member Christina Blanton reported on the Christmas in July Vendor Fair to be held July 13th at Maya Cinemas, located at 1000 California Avenue in Bakersfield. Vendor booths are $100, or $200 for exclusivity. Proceeds from the event will benefit Children’s Miracle Network.
After the meeting was adjourned, a Chapter Board meeting was held where the Board further discussed the Christmas in July Vendor Fair.
“Our goal is to raise $2,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Our costs are minimal, especially if we get a sponsor for $500. We are looking for a business that has a connection with Children’s Miracle Network,” said President Capra.
It was agreed that members will be needed to man the NAPW booth. Christina Blanton has the list of vendors from last year’s event and will reach out to them. She will also print posters announcing the fair for Maya Cinemas to display.
Plans are also in the works for the Bakersfield Chapter to participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk on October 19th at CSUB. Chapter Secretary Claudia Holderness reported she attended the event kick-off and distributed packets to those who were interested in participating.
“So far, we have raised $353 but we need more walkers to participate. Our team goal for donations is $1,000, and donations can easily be made on the Bakersfield Heart Walk website,” said Secretary Holderness.
“Donors can honor a loved one who survived or passed due to heart disease or stroke, and names will be scrolled at the event. “
President Janelle next introduced the guest speaker, Sheri Horn Bunk, Executive Director of Taft College Foundation.
“Sheri talked about her career moves, leadership roles, education, failures and perseverance,” said Chapter President.
“Her presentation was filled with plenty of practical advice and helpful information!”
Ms. Horn Bunk told the group of professional women that it’s important “you find your authentic self and the power to be you.” Be inclusive, she said; help your younger and older sisters. Never go back (to ex-boyfriends, ex-husbands, etc.), and don’t hire a person back. Also, be on time! Being late is no exception! See yourself as life-sized. The signature of your work is important. Be proud of what you do. Finally, she said to look into the future. Keep assessing your life, and plan for your future. Save your money because you may be alone when you are older.
The speaker then shared about her business, Fairway Sports Marketing-Golf Clinics FORE Women, and how it got started. About 300 women have gone through her golf clinics. Golf opens the door to meet people.
Through one closest-to-the-hole shot in a tournament, she gained many opportunities to meet people. Sheri Horn bunk also gave advice on how to get started playing and opportunities to learn. Claudia Holderness then spoke about the many opportunities to golf with and meet other women at each of the local courses.
“Our ‘Bragging for a Buck’ activity was held, and members and guests shared about special events and people in their lives. Members and guests also had inspirational ‘pop-open’ cards at their place setting, and some women read their message about hope, dreams and other motivational thoughts!” said President Janelle Capra.
To conclude the meeting, a golf putting contest was conducted, and several women won hats or golf balls for getting in-the-hole or close to the hole. One member won the grand prize, a free golf lesson with PGA Professional Dave Bolar at Sundale Country Club!
