NAPW Chicago, IL Chapter Hosted ‘Cocktails for a Cause’ Event in August to Benefit Primo Center for Women & Children
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- Members and guests of the NAPW Chicago, IL Local Chapter gathered on August 12th for a professional networking meeting at the Ivy Hotel.
The group of professional women hosted ‘Cocktails for a Cause,’ a fundraising event that benefited the Primo Center for Women and Children.
In addition to Shelly Cooper, a representative from the nonprofit, a special guest appearance was made by Josina Morita, a candidate for a seat on the board of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District in the Illinois 2014 Democratic primary in March.
Plans were also set for exciting, upcoming Chapter events including a visit from the organization's spokesperson, Star Jones on October 9th.
Attendees were welcomed to the fundraising and networking event by Megan Wessels, President of the Chicago Local Chapter.
She opened the meeting by introducing Shelly Cooper from the Primo Center for Women and Children.
“We were so excited to be able to help the Primo Center for Women and Children in the wonderful work they do by raising over $250 from our ‘Cocktails for a Cause’ event,” said President Wessels.
Ms. Cooper thanked the Chapter for their generosity.
She explained the mission of the Primo Center for Women and Children, which is to empower women and children to become productive, responsible and independent members of their communities. This is accomplished by providing transitional housing, counseling and support services to homeless women and their children.
The Center also supports mothers in their education and training efforts to find and retain employment.
Josina Morita made a special guest appearance. She is running for a seat on the board of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District in the IL March 2014 Democratic primary.
“If elected, Josina Morita will be the first Asian American woman in office in the U.S. A big win for women who are Leaning In!” said the Chapter President.
President Wessels made a number of announcements about some exciting plans for the Chapter including: a Chicago Chapter ‘Lean In Circle’ as represented by Sheryl Sandberg’s popular book, Lean In; the formation of groups within the Chicago Chapter for members to network within their industry; a Sisterhood Mentoring Program to help the younger generation of women succeed and a Chicago Chapter Newsletter.
There are a number of upcoming Chicago Chapter events including themed workshops and a holiday ‘Cocktails for a Cause’ fundraiser.
The Chapter President also made an announcement about an exciting guest who will be visiting the Chapter next month.
“I am thrilled to inform you all that Star Jones, NAPW’s National Spokesperson, will be our special guest at the October 9th meeting,” said President Wessels. “It should be an exciting time, so be sure to mark your calendars!”
