Narconon Gabbiano Celebrates a Quarter Century of Saving Lives in Lecce, Italy
(PRWEB) July 18, 2013 -- For the last twenty-five years, the Narconon® drug rehab center in Gabbiano has been determinedly saving the lives of those who were addicted, even when the addicted person at first pushed the help away. In July 14th 2013, the staff of Narconon Gabbiano celebrated twenty-five years of saving lives, joined by graduates, family, members of the local police force, the mayor and many other friends from the community.
In all, more than two hundred people celebrated the success of this program that has saved well over 1,000 people in this region from the tragic outcomes of addiction – incarceration, losing everything of value, loss of loving relationships, illness, overdose or death.
Because Narconon Gabbiano has long enjoyed the support of the local police and city government, the mayor, a number of other city officials and the commander of the Carabinieri Police were welcomed to a private buffet in the dining room. As graduates, family, friends and neighbors gathered for a formal awards ceremony, the mayor spoke about the asset Narconon Gabbiano had been for the community. Together, Narconon and city officials had been able to build a valuable synergy to fight the problems of drug abuse in the community, he noted.
A touching message was received from the regional Narconon management office in Milan, thanking the staff for the often difficult job of salvaging the addict. In this message, Ugo Ferrando, the president of Narconon Southern Europe acknowledged the staff who kept helping others through the difficult task of addiction recovery, often staying on the job for many years. "It takes enormous courage to love an addict and to assist him hour after hour, day after day, until the end of the program," he said. "When a person completes the Narconon program, he leaves here with a heart full of gratitude for all the people who give life to Narconon Gabbiano."
Commander Marcello Martina of the local police force received a plaque with the thanks of the whole Narconon staff, and then the guests were welcomed to a delicious lunch. Spirits were very high as the beautifully decorated cakes were cut, and then everyone lined up for a group photograph. In a spontaneous demonstration of acknowledgement and validation, the group broke into a long period of applause.
