Senate Declares October 8th the Third Annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day

The U.S. Senate has officially recognizes October 8, 2017 as National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day for the third straight year with the passage of Senate Resolution 287. The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) thanks Congress for their continued support and will join the nation this week in celebrating the important role played by hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology in the U.S.

The U.S. Senate has officially recognized October 8, 2017 as National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day for the third straight year with the passage of Senate Resolution 287. The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) thanks Congress for their continued support and will join the nation this week in celebrating the important role played by hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology in the U.S.

Fuel cell and hydrogen companies, employees, customers, suppliers, state and local officials and other supporters will commemorate this special day with announcements, events, and activities across the country to raise awareness of the benefits these technologies provide in generating reliable and resilient power, while increasing America’s energy, environmental, and economic security.

National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is observed on October 8 (10.08), in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen (1.008).

“The United States is a world leader in fuel cell and hydrogen technology and South Carolina is at the forefront of that drive. Whether it’s hosting the largest deployment of fuel cell forklifts at BMW’s manufacturing plant in Greer or leading cutting-edge fuel cell research through the Savannah River National Laboratory South Carolina is leading the way” said Senator Lindsey Graham, Co-Chair of the Senate Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Caucus and sponsor of the resolution. “I am proud to recognize this day and the critical role the fuel cell and hydrogen industry is playing in building a new energy economy that will lead us to a brighter future both in South Carolina and across the nation,” added Senator Graham.

“I’m proud to recognize Connecticut’s leadership in hydrogen and fuel cell production. Connecticut is using fuel cells to run cars, stores, and major institutions like the Connecticut Science Center,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal, Co-Chair of the Senate Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Caucus and co-sponsor of the resolution. “This cutting edge technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions, increases our energy security, creates jobs, and is the backbone of our state’s clean power industry. Public-private partnerships like the one represented by this resolution play a critical role in promoting growth and technological advancement as we continue to strive for a sustainable, clean energy future.”

Morry Markowitz, President of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) added, “As we celebrate our third annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, the hydrogen and fuel cell future we worked for is making its mark today, with dynamic and growing markets across the industry.” In addition, Markowitz said, “This progress is a tribute to the companies, organizations, and individuals who pioneered these technologies and made hydrogen and fuel cells an important part of the nation’s, and the world’s, energy mix.”
