Swindon, UK (PRWEB) October 13, 2013 -- Nationwide Jobs have put together a university survival guide for new freshers students heading away for their first taste of the academic lifestyle - and it's a little more in-depth than the classic adage of 'don't forget your toothbrush.'
In fact, students are advised to take a complete health kit with them, including everything from cotton wool and plasters to paracetamol and antihistamines - all of which might come in handy when dealing with the dreaded 'fresher's flu.'
Nationwide Jobs have also put together a handy YouTube video, reminding soon-to-be students of five of the most frequently forgotten - yet most often missed - items.
Items on the list include:
• Multiway adaptors;
• Batteries;
• Tea and coffee;
• Compact DVD storage;
• Passport photos for ID cards.
Also in the guide are:
• Doorstops to seem more sociable (just be wary of any fire regulations);
• A reliable alarm clock (battery-powered helps prevent disaster if there's a power cut);
• Removable storage (a USB memory stick makes it easy to take essays to be printed);
• Kitchen storage tubs (keeps food fresher for longer, helping to stretch your budget).
The full printed guide is six pages long and covers a large number of aspects of academic life, from the social scene to the lecture-based learning style, so it really is a hugely useful resource for any new students who have questions, concerns or uncertainties about the course they are about to embark upon.
A Nationwide Jobs spokesperson said: "Our guide covers all the main worry areas of university, but also touches on some simple steps that can help to make you more employable while you are studying. For example, make sure you know your National Insurance number - you'll need it if applying for a part-time job. Some popular student employers also now need to see a passport to prove you are eligible to work in the UK.
"University should be an exciting time for all students, and while fresher’s week is always daunting for even the most confident of individuals, at least our guide can help you to make sure you don't forget the basics."
