John O’Leary will deliver a powerful message of what it takes to defy harrowing odds...His exceptional recovery message is critical for NCPDP members to consider – from a patient perspective – as we tackle the critical work of closing gaps in healthcare to drive better patient outcomes.

NCPDP announced today John O’Leary, childhood severe burn survivor, speaker and a bestselling author who inspires audiences with his epic story of overcoming impossible odds with determination and resilience, and of paying forward the keys to his happiness and success, will give an important keynote address at NCPDP’s 2023 Annual Technology & Business Conference, “The Great Race to Close Gaps in Care”. The Annual Conference, which will be held May 8-10, 2023, at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona, is expected to draw more than 700 attendees representing a broad cross-section of pharmacy and other healthcare related industry segments.

“John O’Leary will deliver a powerful message of what it takes to defy harrowing odds after a childhood accident left him with a 1% chance to live,” remarked Lee Ann Stember, President & CEO of NCPDP. “With unwavering support from his care team – including his own parents – John was able to not only survive – but thrive. His exceptional recovery message is critical for NCPDP members to consider – from a patient perspective – as we tackle the critical work of closing gaps in healthcare to drive better patient outcomes.”

John O’Leary’s inspirational story began at nine-years old, when he was playing with fire and gasoline at his family home and accidentally caused an explosion that left him with burns covering 100% of his body and scant chance of survival. Despite the overwhelming odds, John went on to conquer his barriers of physical damage and emotional scarring from the accident to lead an authentic life designed around helping others conquer their own unique barriers that may be preventing them from creating inspired lives. His emotional storytelling, unexpected humor and authenticity are unforgettable. In the wake of the global pandemic, John has expanded his talks from inspirational to transformational.

John’s award-winning Live Inspired podcast has more than 2.5 million downloads and features world-renowned guests like Brené Brown, Mitch Albom, and Shawn Achor. Plus, he is a two-time #1 National Bestselling author. His first book “ON FIRE: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life” sold over 250,000 copies and was translated into 12 languages. His second book “IN AWE: Rediscover Your Childlike Wonder to Unleash Inspiration, Meaning and Joy” was published in May 2020 to much praise for the timeliness of its central message during the global pandemic.

NCPDP’s national conference draws more than 700 attendees from across the healthcare industry, including technical, business, and executive representatives from health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, retail and independent pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, long-term care providers, healthcare consultants, technology vendors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesale drug distributors, database management organizations and others.
