Danced By the Light of the Moon” is the story of a charter sailboat vacation in the Virgin Islands gone terribly wrong. Sailor and author Nelson Cover writes a fast-paced, gripping narrative of adventure as what begins for his characters as perfect sailing days and nightly celebrations under moonlit skies disintegrate suddenly into a life or death situation in which storm and circumstance unite to the peril of boat and crew. For them, a diverse group looking for fun adventure in the Caribbean, it becomes a defining time where they discover what they are made of. They will or will not, according to their make-up, demonstrate great courage, resourcefulness, and creative thinking as Nelson Cover brings out the realities of this sailing adventure into grand, dramatic, gripping fashion. Read on as his narrative unfolds and Cover’s characters fight to survive one of nature’s awesome tantrums at sea.

Ramsey Flynn, retired from the State Department, organizes bareboat charters several times a year, as well as vacations among friends and acquaintances. For his efforts, and the accompanying quality and cost savings enjoyed by his fellow travelers, he and a companion travel at no cost. For this cruise, he has organized two boats of an odd but paid in full mix of experienced and inexperienced sailors. They quickly discover that all is not right with the shady charter company Flynn has hooked them up with at a considerable discount. The company’s boat may not be seaworthy and as the weather turns deadly, they are suddenly thrust into sudden death, trying to do everything in their experience to save themselves.

The Caribbean in its full romantic atmosphere is well-depicted. Readers must be there when the strong winds come in to remind them that a tropical paradise does turn deadly with treacherous currents. So it does, too, in the novel’s human dimension – it takes all kinds at sea – but who amongst them will survive to tell the tale and say, “I danced by the light of the moon, on the wild waves and salty rhythms of the sea and our blood…”?
