New Hampshire Finally Hops on the New England Medical Marijuana Train, by PotStores.com
(PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- As of June 23, 2013, New Hampshire residents with “debilitating medical conditions” or “chronic diseases” will now be able to obtain marijuana legally from doctors licensed to prescribe medical pot (Marijuana Policy Project, July 23, 2013: http://www.mpp.org/states/new-hampshire/hb-573-an-overview-of-new.html). Democratic governor of New Hampshire Maggie Hassan signed the historic bill (HB 573) that officially turned the entire New England area of the U.S.--including Washington, D.C.--into a safe haven for individuals seeking an alternative treatment to illnesses that do not respond to conventional medications.
Although Potstores.com, one of the web's leading authorities on medical marijuana, reports that the bill will allow physicians to issue special ID cards to patients who could then purchase two ounces of pot from a licensed dispensary, the law is still wrought with ambiguous language that may inadvertently create legal troubles for people who would like to start using pot to treat their illness before receiving medical marijuana cards. Full implementation of the new law could take two years or more.
Prior to signing HB 573 into law, Governor Hassan insisted on several changes to the bill. One major provision eliminated from the original bill was the right for patients to grow a limited amount of marijuana in their own home without being subjected to legal action or confiscation (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/new-hampshire-legalizes-medical-marijuana-article-1.1406982, July, 23, 2013). Previously, New Hampshire's House of Representatives had already approved the ability for patients qualifying as medical marijuana recipients to grow one, two or three plants in their home or obtain their medically prescribed marijuana from a state-regulated, non-profit treatment center.
Potstores.com considers the partial legalization of medical marijuana in New Hampshire another big step in the right direction for eventually allowing all U.S. citizens who suffer from serious illnesses the right to seek relief through the cultivation and use of medical marijuana.
