New Jersey Law Firm’s ‘Gift of Life’ Celebration in Honor of Attorney Steven Benvenisti Raises More Than $31,000 to Fight Drunk Driving, Help Brain Injury Victims
Teaneck, New Jersey (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- The New Jersey personal injury law firm of Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C., is pleased to announce that its March 25, 2014 “Gift of Life” celebration in honor of firm partner Steven Benvenisti raised $31,843 for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey (BIANJ).
The event marked Benvenisti’s near-death encounter with a drunk driver 25 years ago.
In March 1989, Benvenisti was a sober pedestrian, walking along the road while on a spring break trip in Florida, when a drunk driver crashed into him. He suffered severe brain and orthopedic injuries and was in a coma for 10 days. At one point, his parents were asked to donate his organs.
Miraculously, Benvenisti fully recovered, and today, he dedicates his life to helping the injured as an attorney and partner with Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C.
The attorney is also a nationally recognized motivational speaker who serves on the MADD and BIANJ national boards of directors and speaks to audiences around the country about the dangers of drunk driving and dealing with traumatic brain injury.
In particular, he directs his message to teens, college students and parents, especially during spring break and prom seasons, which often involve alcohol, peer pressure and motor vehicles.
Benvenisti recently relayed his message – “promise if you ever have too much to drink that you will not operate a motor vehicle” – in a March 19 interview with CBS 2 New York.
Over 250 guests attended the 25th anniversary event on March 25 to celebrate Benvenisti’s survival and to support his efforts to end drunk driving and help those suffering from traumatic brain injury.
Ms. Jan Withers, the MADD National President, and Mrs. Barbara Geiger-Parker, BIANJ President and CEO, were present to accept donations on behalf of their organizations.
During the event, Benvenisti honored two remarkable individuals from each organization with the Dr. Henry and Doris Benvenisti Award, which is dedicated to his surviving parents. Maria Esteves of MADD and Richard Anderson of BIANJ were given the award for their leadership and commitment to preventing drunk driving and helping those with traumatic brain injury.
In addition to his speaking engagements, Benvenisti has authored the book, Spring Break, to further spread his message.
“I retell my story in the third person at numerous high schools, conferences and medical facilities to instill an important value in our young adults: Drunk driving is never an acceptable practice,” Benvenisti said.
“My mission is to end drunk driving and prevent senseless harm to innocent individuals and their families. I believe reaching our teenagers and college students is the first step in making my mission a reality.”
Benvenisti is available for television appearances and interviews during the 2014 prom season.
