Elizabeth Carpenter, New Orleans Criminal Defense Attorney, Conducts Course on the Particulars of DWI Defense in Louisiana
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) January 13, 2014 -- Criminal defense attorney Elizabeth Carpenter recently conducted a Continuing Legal Education course geared towards attorneys new to the area of DWI defense. She was selected by the Law Review to lead this course because of her extensive knowledge of the complicated DUI laws in Louisiana.
DWI defense in Louisiana requires an in-depth understanding of both the legal and scientific issues involved in DWI testing and conviction. Carpenter presented the CLE course to help other New Orleans attorneys understand the process in order to provide better DWI defense to their clients. The course covered proper administration of the NHSTA Field Sobriety Test - nystagmus, walk and turn, and one-legged stand - and the breathalyzer test as well as weaknesses in DUI testing and how tests can be invalidated.
Carpenter has years of experience in DUI defense and has undergone substantial training in this difficult field. She has taken the same courses that police officers take during training and knows the regulations that law enforcement agents must follow when administering DUI tests. Her knowledge of these regulations and of the weaknesses in standard DUI tests allows her to challenge common errors that officers make during a DWI arrest, evidence that can lead to a case dismissal.
Carpenter has succeeded in helping DWI offenders avoid harsher penalties such as license suspension and jail time. Her hope is that in leading this CLE course, other DWI attorneys will be able to protect their clients from penalties resulting from improper DUI testing.
