The Nike Ultimate Camp New York City, which was held at Randall’s Island in 2013, is moving to Manhattan College to host their 2014 summer camp. The Nike Ultimate Camp at Manhattan College will run from July 27-31 and will offer Overnight, Extended Day (9:30am-8:00pm) and Day (9:30am-4:30pm) camp options. Camp is open to boys and girls, ages 11-18, of all skill levels. Some instruction and competitive play will be mixed and some will be separated by gender. The day camp will focus on ultimate instruction and match play. The overnight and extended day programs will also include video review for field play & running/throwing form, some initial exposure to strength training, yoga, and other cross fitness activities.
Returning for his second year as Camp Director is Aaron Bell. Bell has been playing, coaching and organizing elite level ultimate frisbee for 16 years and always remained an active member of his community. His extracurricular résumé speaks volumes to his lifelong interest in the healthy development of youth and the sport. Youth Director on the DiscNY Board, Bell has worked as a camp counselor at multiple ultimate camps, founded several ultimate club teams and tournaments, and some of his accomplishments as a player include winning the National Championship in the Mixed Division in 2004, Runner up in the Callahan Award (MVP) in 2006, a UK Men's National Championship in 2007, winning the World Beach Championships in Italy 2007, as well as competing at the 2010 World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague.
Bell, who partnered with US Sports Camps to establish Nike Ultimate Camps, said, "To see our new camp get off the ground last summer was a thrill! We’re really excited to be moving to Manhattan College this year so that we can provide exceptional overnight and extended day components! We are working hard to provide the best possible experience for the campers."
Some of the most notable coaches and players in the New York Area will be hands-on at the camp, working daily with the players. Most notably, Mr. Dan Heijman will return in his second year as Head Program Director. Dan won two National Championships in 2003 and 2007 for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was voted as the Callahan Award winner in 2007, as well as the National MVP. Like Bell, Heijman has qualified for the USA Club Championships six times and is passionate about bringing his experience and love for the game to youth players in this summer camp setting.
