New biography offers detailed account of life growing up in a picturesque town during post-WWII
Author Dr. Rickey L. Harman announces release of 'Happy Days in Happy, Texas'
WEATHERFORD, Texas, Sept. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In Dr. Rickey L. Harman's new book, "Happy Days in Happy, Texas: The Joys and Advantages of Growing Up in "The Town Without a Frown" after World War II" (published by Archway Publishing), he examines the founding of the small farming community, tells stories of the people responsible for its growth and development, describes growing up there in the 1950s and 1960s, and discusses the gradual decline of the town during the latter half of the 20th century.
Harman recounts his personal experiences to describe the great life baby boomers enjoyed. Because of the improving financial conditions of their parents, kids in town and in the country experienced new conveniences such as telephones, indoor plumbing, central heat and refrigerated air, television, automobiles and for some, their own bedrooms. Harman states that the town's moniker, "The Town Without a Frown," truly applied to the young people of the town during this time.
Harman argues, "(the book) will help today's youth better understand the actions and thoughts of their grandparents. Also, the book will assist in recording the history of this period of time." He hopes readers enjoy reading about the happy times that were had in small communities like Happy, Texas.
