New Book Helps Readers Focus Their Passion for Effective Activism and Change the World
What is truly unique about What's On Your Sign? is that the material is equally applicable regardless of your gender, age, or level of activism experience. Man or woman, high school student or retired senior, activism rookie or veteran, all will benefit.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The current political climate in this country has resulted in a dramatic rise in social and political activism among women and men, young and old. Activists of all sorts have gained international attention to a degree not seen in the US since the 1960s. A new research-based book, What's On your Sign?: How to focus your passion and change the world, prepares budding activists and guides more experienced activists in a way no other book has.
Author Terri Lyon has a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology. She never saw herself as an activist or a symbol of activism. Until 2016.
"When I started my activism journey, I wanted to carry a protest sign, but I had no idea what message to display," says Lyon. "I wanted to know two things about activism, how to get started and how to be effective. I couldn't find a book to answer my questions, so I wrote one."
What's On Your Sign? helps its readers:
- find their passion for activism,
- identify their skills and knowledge,
- understand how motivation affects activism,
- craft an ideal activism opportunity,
- find activism that works,
- set goals to stay motivated, and
- check their impact.
"What is truly unique about What's On Your Sign? is that the material is equally applicable regardless of your gender, age, or level of activism experience," Lyon says. "Man or woman, high school student or retired senior, activism rookie or veteran, all will benefit."
Dr. Lyon has also written a companion fill-in workbook, The What's On Your Sign Workbook. Each chapter of the workbook corresponds to a chapter in What's On Your Sign? and includes assessments, worksheets, checklists, and reflection questions that will help readers thoroughly achieve the goals of the book.
Author Terri Lyon has a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a contributing faculty member at Walden University, the treasurer of a local federal credit union, and a professional arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau.
