HOMESTEAD, Fla., Oct. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author Jerry C. Blanton has published his new historical tale that shares what it was like to live through chaotic times in the 1960s and 1970s. In "Bruised Purple Hearts: Ghosts of the USA," Blanton illustrates the importance and effect of the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, and the rise of feminism, equal rights, the Gay Liberation Movement, music and more. Throughout the novel, Blanton shares a different perspective expressing how hard the war was on the baby boomer generation and how everyone was suffering in different ways.
The author introduces protagonist, Matt Conklin, a romantic idealist who stands up to civil rights abuses and the atrocities of the war. Blanton shares with readers that while Conklin pursues his dream of becoming a writer, he crosses paths with difficult people, challenging marriages, friends struggling with societal acceptance and is introduced to the world of psychedelic drugs. As the years go by, Conklin struggles with finding his truth and questions the life he has been living.
"I was inspired to write this novel because of the Vietnam War. I wanted to show its negative impact on the boomers, and the prevalence of feminism, racism, homophobia and psychedelic drugs of that time. It was a chaotic era in which the baby boomers suffered and fought back. Matt Conklin and his friends are a representation for the boomers," said Blanton.
"Bruised Purple Hearts" will appeal to a wide audience as it capitalizes on important social issues that were influential during the 60s and 70s and how individuals were able to overcome the difficulties that they faced.
