New Book Shares Tale of a Young Girl’s Realization That She is Responsible for Her Life Choices
ENCINITAS, Calif. (PRWEB) February 22, 2019 -- A fifth grader determined to succeed in school comes to the realization that she is ultimately responsible for all the choices she makes in life in Ramona A. Velazquez’s new children’s book, “The Fork in My Fifth-Grade Road” (published by Archway Press).
Set in 1957, the book follows 10-year-old Margie, who is starting fifth grade, through a year she hopes will be perfect. Her mother has recently become a single parent and Margie is finding her way through dealing with the divorce and finding her place in school culture. Mr. Holcomb, her fifth grade teacher, is instrumental in helping her have a fabulous fifth grade experience. He shows that teachers have the power to turn children around and make a difference in their lives.
“Kids really cannot conceive what it was like back in 1957. Sometimes it’s fun to remind them we didn’t always have 200 channels on our black and white television,” Velazquez says. “Rotary phones were cool then, and life seemed simpler. Many things are still the same...lying, bullying, confidence, standing up for oneself, single parent households, responsibility, leadership, etc.”
