San Diego-based Cammies & Canines, NeuroGen and EpigeneticsRx have launched an innovative research study to help veterans who are struggling with post-traumatic stress by implementing a program that personalizes a nutritional-based treatment protocol directed by a medical-grade genetic test.

Trying innovative healthcare practices to address mental health injury and substance use is the only way we can build a better way to provide behavioral health services,” said Supervisor Fletcher.

County of San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, a Marine Corps. combat veteran, supported the effort with a $60,000 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant from the County.

“We have to take bold action to tackle our most serious challenges. Trying innovative healthcare practices to address mental health injury and substance use is the only way we can build a better way to provide behavioral health services,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “We hope this study produces new information about how we can better assist veterans manage post-traumatic stress.”

Since its launch in early February, the study has enrolled 30 veterans that are receiving genetic testing, personalized lifestyle coaching, nutritional-based treatment solutions, microcurrent neurofeedback and ongoing genomic counseling.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate on such a groundbreaking program to assist veterans,” states Deb Hubers Co-Founder of EpigeneticsRx.

This program leverages EpigeneticsRx’s years of research in functional genomics and provides veterans non-pharmaceutical, non-opioid, non-addicting, treatment solutions that are specifically tailored to each veteran’s genetic profile.

This research taps into San Diego County’s strength in genomics, the presence of the country’s largest number of post-9/11 veterans, and some of the nation’s most respected functional medicine physicians.
