New Guidebook Offers Insights on ‘How to Stay Sane in Pain’ With Lupus
HAMPSHIRE, England (PRWEB) May 03, 2019 -- Even though current data suggests that lupus is more common than cystic fibrosis, leukemia, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis combined and recent statistics from http://www.lupus.org estimates that at least 5 million people worldwide, including 1.5 million Americans, are affected by some form of lupus, at present, the disease is unfamiliar to most and is widely misunderstood. Undiagnosed, unmanaged and untreated lupus can damage major organs and be life threatening.
Failure to recognize the symptoms of lupus and to diagnose it correctly is currently nothing short of endemic writes Karen Drennan-McEwan pointing to a comprehensive study in 2017 which revealed that over half the sample, 54.1%, had initially been told that there was nothing wrong with them or that their symptoms were psychological. This lack of information and understanding, prompted this author and psychotherapist to publish “How to Stay Sane in Pain: Clarity, Resilience, and Calm with Lupus” (published by Balboa Press).
“Lupus is a medical condition where your immune system attacks healthy cells. It is non-contagious. Although there have been significant advances in its medical treatment over the last 60 years, it currently has no cure and it remains a mysterious disease to many,” the author explains. “Right now there is a real need to raise awareness and understanding of lupus. I was therefore inspired to write this book to improve the lives of those already diagnosed and to increase the wider understanding of what they face, but also to help safeguard the health of those undiagnosed at this time.”
In “How to Stay Sane in Pain,” Drennan-McEwan clarifies the key symptoms of lupus and explains how it is currently diagnosed and treated. Written in layman’s language to make a complex subject accessible to the reader, the book offers a look at its history, epidemiology, physical and psychological implications, medications and their main side effects. It refers to the latest research in the field. From her own perspective as someone who was diagnosed with severe lupus erythematosus (SLE) in 2012, and who experienced six years of constant chronic pain, as well as other patients’ testimonies, this comprehensive guide ultimately describes how to achieve resilience and calm despite the disease. In here, Drennan-McEwan offers a step-by-step mind-body approach — an approach rooted in the author’s personal experience of a massive lupus flare and utilizing her training as a counselor and psychotherapist.
The result is a highly accessible modern manual which has already been well received by the lupus community with one reader describing it as full of eureka moments and her go-to lupus handbook. It has also been attracting five star reviews. Visit https://www.amazon.com/How-Stay-Sane-Pain-Resilience/dp/198222049X to purchase a copy of the book.
