Newcomer House Porch Program September 16: Aftershock and Trauma - The Resilience and Duality of War
As part of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area's (HCWHA) 2018 Porch Program Series, Drs. Stephen A. Goldman and James J. Broomall will present on the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of the Civil War on the men who fought it.
KEEDYSVILLE, Md., September 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As part of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area's (HCWHA) 2018 Porch Program Series, Drs. Stephen A. Goldman and James J. Broomall will present on the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of the Civil War on the men who fought it. They will explore how Union and Confederate veterans of the Civil War reintegrated into their communities after being marked physically and emotionally by the conflict.
Goldman and Broomall will discuss their research at 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 16 at the Newcomer House. The house will be open from 11 AM to 4:30 PM, volunteer docents will be available to share knowledge about the Newcomer House and offer assistance to visitors to the three county Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area.
This is the third season of Porch Programs at the Newcomer House, HCWHA's Exhibit & Visitor Center at Antietam National Battlefield. Visitors of all ages are invited to interact with experts on a variety of Civil War topics, ranging from first aid to family history.
