EveryMove Tackles Traditional New Year’s Resolution Failures with a 4-Week Fitness Challenge
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) January 02, 2014 -- EveryMove, the leader in physical activity rewards and incentives programs, has created a 4-week fitness challenge to help people overcome what amounts to a 50% failure rate in health related New Year’s Resolutions. The challenge, Fit Pursuit (http://www.everymove.org/fitpursuit) combines three scientifically proven success tactics for achieving New Year’s Resolutions: setting SMART goals, creating social accountability and using treats as tangible incentives.
“Over 156 million Americans will set a New Year’s Resolution and fail within four months,” says Russell Benaroya, CEO of EveryMove. “Over 40% of those resolutions will be fitness related. These are staggering statistics that can be easily solved by changing how people approach their resolutions. Fit Pursuit is designed to help people have some fun while increasing the probability of success.”
Participants can choose one of six goals to complete each week during the 4-week challenge. Rather than typical New Year’s Resolutions goals such as “lose weight this year”, each Fit Pursuit goal is designed using the SMART goal model: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Examples of goals include:
• Walk 50,000 steps a week.
• Run 6 miles a week.
• Spend 100 minutes at the gym a week.
Goal progress can be tracked virtually from any of the 38 fitness tracking apps and devices EveryMove integrates with or by manually entering their daily activities into EveryMove.
Along with SMART goals, Fit Pursuit also builds in social accountability by allowing participants to build a cheer squad. According to research, sharing your goals with friends can improve success rates by over 30%. Members of participant’s cheer squad will be allowed to leave encouraging and celebratory comments and track the participant’s progress each week through email and social updates.
The third success tactic found in Fit Pursuit is a chance to win one of many motivational prizes. When selecting a goal, participants can choose from prize opportunities ranging from coffee and movie gift cards, to a 2 night stay at a luxury hotel of their choosing. Participants can only qualify to win their selected prize if they complete their goal 3 of 4 weeks during the challenge and can increase their odds if they have an active cheer squad.
“Response rates have been overwhelmingly positive,” states Russell Benaroya. “In the past two weeks, we have invited select members of the EveryMove community to join Fit Pursuit and thousands have already signed up and declared their goals. As we open the challenge up to the broader community we have high hopes we can really make a positive impact on people’s New Year’s Resolutions this year. ”
