Nikon Announces the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom Lens and the SB-300 AF Speedlight—Available for Pre-Order at B&H Photo Video
New York City, NY (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens is a versatile multi-purpose zoom lens with 27-210mm full-frame equivalency, capable of wide-angle and telephoto imaging—and everything in between. This all-in-one NIKKOR zoom lens is compatible with DX format cameras, and it features an extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element in addition to an aspherical element, which help to improve edge sharpness and clarity while correcting chromatic and geometric distortions. Its combination of high-quality optics and a broad zoom range make the 18-140mm an ideal go-to lens for travel and other tasks that demand functionality, without sacrificing portability.
Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) autofocus mechanism provides near-silent auto focusing that is both fast and accurate. Combined with Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization, the SWM AF system equips the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm for handheld video recording as well as fast-action photography. Additionally, manual autofocus override allows instant switching to manual focus without taking your eye off the subject of interest. A 1.48 ft. minimum focus distance and f/3.5 maximum aperture permit macro-style shooting that yields shallow depth of field with pleasant out-of-focus detail.

Nikon also announced the SB-300 AF Speedlight, a lightweight on-camera flash designed for use with Nikon cameras with i-TTL support. It has a guide number of 59' at ISO 100, and is compatible with DX and FX sensors with coverage from 27mm-200mm on a FX-format camera.
Attaching the SB-300 to the camera will provide many more possibilities than a pop-up flash. It supports Nikon's i-TTL technology, which allows for more accurate metering for a proper exposure and white balance setting. Additionally, cameras with support for Nikon's Creative Lighting System can utilize the fill-flash function to get rid of unwanted shadows on the subject.
The 120° tilting head is vital to what makes this unit more useful than a pop-up flash. Being able to tilt the head allows for bouncing light off a ceiling or wall for soft, even light on the subject.
Designed to be compact, it works well on smaller cameras. And with a weight of only 3.4 ounces, it will not add much to a camera kit. The use of two AAA batteries contributes to this by not requiring the use of AA batteries used in larger flashes. It also comes with the Nikon SS-DC1 Soft Case for storage.
Nikon SB-300 Product Highlights:
Zoom flash head provides wide-angle coverage from 18mm in DX-format cameras or 27mm in FX-format
Recycling time of 4 seconds with alkaline batteries, or only 3.5 seconds with Ni-MH batteries
