A Bay Area special needs training center Stepping Stones Growth Center (SSGC) announces the launch of their new website today. The staff was looking for a web design with a fresh new look and a website that could be managed and maintained by the staff. Additionally, they needed to abandon the old site with flash and outdated security standards.

Ever wonder where those special needs people who bag your groceries at stores like Safeway, CVS and Albertson's come from? How did they get trained and hired? The nonprofit social service agency Stepping Stones Growth Center is one of those organizations who make this happen. The program is paid for by private and corporate donations and some funding from grants and local rehabilitation departments in the East Bay.

Stepping Stone Growth Center started in 1975 as an after school program, but has blossomed into a full service center for training in independent living, pre-vocational programs, art programs, job placements, both adult and child programs and much more. The center has received awards from the United States Senate, California State Senate and local Mayors.

"We knew that SSGC staff were struggling with the older content management system," said Vince Pimentel, a web developer at KO Websites in Castro Valley. "The old site was also on a platform that was no longer supported and incorporated flash, which is not mobile friendly." said Vince. The new website is built on the WordPress content management system (CMS).

"The WordPress CMS is one of the easiest to learn and works great for non-profit organizations who may have several people working on site updates at the same time," says Ken O'Donnell, owner of KO Websites. "I've seen Stepping Stone students bagging groceries at our local supermarket and when I learned we had an opportunity to help them out, we jumped at the chance. I love organizations that help people learn how to take care of themselves and be productive." KO Websites built the website for 75% off their normal fee and continues to support the SSGC staff with CMS training, support and website hosting.
