Northern Outdoors announces the launch of MoAugust, a "Mustache for a Cause" month-long event during August to raise awareness of men’s health issues. All proceeds raised will go to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer to help support men's health.

MoAugust Charity Event

August is our busiest month & our best time to create awareness of and fundraise for men's health issues.

Northern Outdoors is using its peak season month of August to support men’s health initiatives, inspired by the international charity organization called Movember. Northern Outdoors’ August ‘Mustache for a Cause' event (playfully named MoAugust by Northern Outdoors) will donate $5 for every MoAugust participant, up to $2,500, directly to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer to help support men’s health.

“The MoAugust idea stems from my experiences with close friends & colleagues who have survived serious battles with cancer. The challenge was to see how our company could make the biggest difference by rallying around men’s health, while also just having some fun with our staff, guides, and guests. August is our busiest time of the year here at Northern Outdoors, so we picked this month in order to have the greatest impact in fundraising and awareness of men's health issues.” – Russell Walters, Owner of Northern Outdoors

How MoAugust works: Participants known as ‘Mo Bros’ and “Mo Sistas”, (think fake mustaches and/or supporters of their men growing ‘staches) will start MoAugust on August 1st, and grow their mustaches out the rest of the month. Northern Outdoors will donate $5 for every MoAugust participant who posts his/her mustache photo on Northern’s Facebook page on or before August 31st, up to a total donation of US$2500, to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer. The best mustaches grown/sported during August will win adventure vacation prizes from Northern Outdoors.

MoAugust Adventure Vacation Prize Information:

  •     First place – Weekend Getaway with rafting for two people (two nights lodging, all meals, Kennebec or Penobscot rafting trip, valid through 2014!)
  •     Second place – Two whitewater rafting passes, valid through 2014!
  •     Third place – $50 Northern Outdoors Gift Card (no expiration date!)
  •     Northern Outdoors Staff – Two Sugarloaf lift passes worth $100

Northern Outdoors hopes that this moustachery will not only overwhelm The Forks, Maine, home of Northern Outdoors, but will also rally online participants by allowing social media followers to get in on the mustache-mania. Mo Bros & Mo Sistas can submit their best mustaches in person at Northern Outdoors, or by an online photo submission on the Northern Outdoors Facebook page. Participants not on Facebook can email their photos to Northern Outdoors for posting. Learn more about MoAugust here.

The funds raised by MoAugust will support prostate cancer initiatives. All funds raised will go directly to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer. The idea for our summer fundraiser came from Movember, the charity organization that funds men’s health initiatives with a moustache-growing campaign that takes place during the month of November. Our event is not part of Movember, but is inspired by that organization.
