Norway Delivers the Nordics Leading 'Consistent Quality' in Tutela's Tests
Crowdsourced data from over 250,000 mobile devices enables most detailed study to date
LONDON, Jan. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new study of mobile experience across Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland has revealed the best network operators for Consistent Quality, a percentage score showing how often the minimum network requirements needed to run the most popular apps are met. In the study, Norway scored highest of the four countries, meeting the minimum threshold in 87.4% of tests nationally, followed by Denmark (85.3%), Sweden (81.1%) and Finland (81.0%).
The study (which can be read in full here) was published by Tutela, an independent mobile quality measurement company, and analyzed over 14 billion measurements. Those including 1.4 million mobile network speed tests, 11.5 million latency tests and more than 23 million jitter and packet loss tests performed across the mainland Nordic region between September and December 2018 in order to provide a full picture of mobile experience.
The report found that over 63% of mobile data usage in Finland is delivered via a 4G or 3G connection. It is the opposite story in Norway, where only 16% of mobile data usage is over a cellular connection and 84% is on WiFi, most likely due to relatively high mobile data costs. The report also reveals the operators with the highest consistent quality, with Norway's ICE and Denmark's TDC coming out on top.
Tom Luke, Vice President, Tutela, said: "How well popular apps like YouTube, Facebook and Skype perform on a mobile network is affected by a variety of factors including download speed, latency and packet loss. Our Consistent Quality score shows the percentage of time that our users were able to get a network connection that was good enough overall to provide an excellent experience. The higher the score, the better, as this means that users get a great experience more often."
Luke continued: "Even with the challenge of large geographic areas to cover, all four Nordic countries perform extremely well in our tests with average consistent quality scores over 80%, Norway especially, which has the lowest data use per person, and the highest penetration of 4G, has the best consistent quality among these countries."
Tutela uses crowdsourcing to test mobile networks in a way that represents the day-to-day usage and experience of real-world mobile users, directly from the users handsets. Tutela's software runs in the background of over 3000 diverse third party mobile apps which have partnered with Tutela to study network quality.
