“Our graduate nursing programs are designed to prepare working professional nurses to serve as leaders, administrators and researchers who can improve patient care and business processes."

American Sentinel University has been recognized again as one of the nation’s best online graduate nursing programs. The university ranked 46th in the 2015 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings among public and private universities. The rankings mark the second consecutive year the university was listed in the top 50.

“The complexity of our modern healthcare system requires nurses to be technologically savvy and have critical thinking skills. To be successful, nurses must be well-educated, well-trained and able to lead patient care,” says Judy Burckhardt, Ph.D., MAEd, MSN, RN, dean, nursing programs at American Sentinel University. “Our graduate nursing programs are designed to prepare working professional nurses to serve as leaders, administrators and researchers who can improve patient care and business processes. We are pleased that our graduate nursing programs are recognized by U.S. News & World Report rankings, and honored that so many of our graduates play important roles at some of the nation’s top hospitals.”

In the rankings, American Sentinel University received the second highest overall score for its student engagement.

The university’s graduate nursing degree programs encourage aspiring nurses to thrive, collaborate and interact with fellow students and faculty through online communities. The virtual classrooms and discussion forums are designed to help students achieve academic and personal success. All students receive MySentinel™ Student Support services, which offers a distinctively personal one-on-one approach for online learning. Students have a dedicated advisor to help guide them from admission to graduation.

The university’s student support services include: new student orientation, dedicated student success advisors, tutoring services, a student resource center, a writing center, discussion forums to interact with peers, instant messaging services for students to connect with their advisor outside of work hours, among other writing and tutoring services. Students have instant access to comprehensive online library services, with help from virtual librarians who are available 24-hours a day.

“At American Sentinel, we are driven by a simple, but ambitious goal: we nurture talent. Our students are our primary focus, and we strive to foster a supportive, encouraging environment of growth,” says Dr. Burckhardt.

American Sentinel’s innovative approach to nursing education offers a flexible online nursing curriculum delivered by faculty with real-world healthcare experience. The university’s education platform leverages technology for more efficient and effective instruction that allows more nurses to advance their education to achieve career goals.

“Assignments and projects in the nursing programs involve ‘real world’ concerns and challenges,” says Dr. Burckhardt. “Our students can apply what they learn in class to their career, and bring the challenges currently facing healthcare into the classroom for discussion.”

American Sentinel currently offers a Master of Science Nursing (MSN) program with five specializations including: case management, infection prevention and control, nursing education, nursing informatics, and nursing management and organizational leadership. In addition, it offers: a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with two specialty tracks in executive and educational leadership; Master of Business Administration Healthcare, and an infection prevention and control certificate program.
