David Perecman Urges Shoppers to Drive Carefully on Busiest Shopping Days of the Year
New York, New York (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- On Thanksgiving and the day after the holiday, consumer spending increases along with the number of car accidents. Insurance company Progressive Corp said that Black Friday is one of the worst days of the year for car accidents, especially parking-related accidents.
The biggest increase in the number of car accident claims on Black Friday occurs in parking situations, according to 2011 claims data from Progressive Insurance. Claims from parking-related accidents increased 37 percent when compared to regular Fridays.
According to Progressive, minor accidents in parking lots are to blame for the majority of the increase in the number of claims. The top claims on this major shopping day include drivers who rear-ended someone or who were rear ended, people who hit a parked car or had their car hit, and those involved in an accident when either they backed up or another car backed up into them.
There are ways drivers can protect their cars. Tips from lawyers at The Perecman Firm include parking further back in the parking lot, away from the rush of the store; being extra vigilant around the crowded lots; driving slowly to avoid cars that may be speeding or cutting across the lot; and being a considerate driver.
Attorney at Law David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, recommends that drivers heading out to shop plan a driving route. This means shoppers should know what they plan to buy and where they are going to buy the items. The driving route should correspond with times the items are on sale. Traffic jams at 6 a.m. on a holiday may seem unlikely, but they often occur.
The National Retail Federation estimated that 240 million people will visit stores this weekend. Individuals who have been in car accidents that involve physical injury, fatality, or other significant damage may benefit from the help of an experienced car accident lawyer.
“Drive carefully to avoid being involved in a car accident. Even a low speed collision can result in expensive damage and possibly cause insurance rates to increase,” said Perecman.
