New York Personal Injury Lawyer from The Perecman Firm Calls for Greater Attention to Escalator Safety Following Macy’s Accident Involving 8-Year-Old
New York, New York (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Escalators pose a significant danger that often goes unrecognized, said personal injury lawyer David Perecman. In recent news, a girl, 8, was riding the escalator at the Macy’s in the Garden State Plaza Shopping Center when her leg became trapped. She was riding with her mother and younger brother from the basement to the main level when the girl’s right leg got caught in the landing section at the top of the escalator, according to CBS News (8.16.13).
A bystander shut down the escalator by pressing the emergency stop button. Rescue workers dismantled the landing area of the escalator to free the girl, reported CBS News.
The girl was said by CBS News to have suffered serious injuries to her leg and foot.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimated there were more than 11,000 people injured on escalators in 2007. The most common entrapment is to the foot. Escalator accidents often result in serious injuries, which can include bone fractures, head injuries, and amputations of fingers or toes. Personal injury lawyers at The Perecman Firm understand that the area where the moving steps meet the side of the escalator is one of the biggest danger zones.
Perecman, a personal injury lawyer in New York for over 30 years, recommends that everyone should practice good escalator safety.
“Parents should teach their children escalator safety and remind their kids each time before they ride,” said New York personal injury lawyer Perecman.
