COLUMBUS, Ohio (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- Henry Acciani is concerned about public safety following Chrysler’s announcement that they would be recalling more than 7,900 ProMaster commercial vans in the United States.
“It is hard to believe that this problem could not have been discovered before the trucks were sold to the public. The problem of accelerators getting stuck in the wide open throttle position is becoming all too frequent,” Acciani said. “It is a consolation that there have not been any reports that this problem has caused any serious injuries yet. The recall was announced after it was found that the accelerator pedal may get stuck and cause unintended acceleration. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number 14V032000, the 2014 Ram ProMaster vehicles affected were manufactured between July 1, 2013 and December 10, 2013. In the affected vehicles, if the accelerator pedal is pushed downward at a certain angle it could get stuck due to interference with the pedal stopper on the floor of the vehicle.
If the accelerator pedal is stuck, it could result in uncontrolled acceleration and an increased risk of a motor vehicle crash. According to NHTSA recall documents, Chrysler will notify affected vehicle owners and dealers who will then replace the pedal stopper with a larger one, free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin March 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 for more information; the number for this recall is P02. Additionally, these vehicles are equipped with a brake override system. Should the pedal become stuck, pushing on the brake pedal will allow the driver to slow down and stop the vehicle.
