MessageOps Reveals Key Findings in the True Price of Office 365 Survey and How Office 365 Admins are Spending their Time

Office 365 Administrators across a spectrum of industries were polled to gain insight into the time spent on a range of Office 365 functions to determine the true price of Office 365.

Champion Solutions Group and MessageOps announced today the release of its “The True Price of Office 365” report. This research uncovered valuable insight into how administrators spend their time on a number of maintenance, management, and use activities, revealing patterns, both expected and counterintuitive, about the investment in human capital required to maintain the Office 365 platform. MessageOps believes that these results reveal opportunities to further streamline the use of Office 365, lowering its real-world cost and increasing its ROI.

The time spent on Office 365 administrative tasks are those related to managing users and subscriptions, billing and invoicing, mobile, and security-related functions. The research delivers broad benchmarks into Office 365 administration of over 100 organizations of different sizes and verticals. Through the research, IT decision-makers can see how their peers spend time managing the platform. In addition, it offers insight into whether certain organizations would benefit from outsourcing some of these tasks.

This report examines the estimated costs associated to the time spent on 10 different administrative tasks. Some of the key findings include:

  • As expected, organizations with 501+ users spent the most time on all tasks at an average of 34.3 hours per month. Organizations with 51-100 users spent the least amount of time, at 8.78 hours, followed by the smallest organizations (1-50) at 13.03 hours.
  • The smallest organizations spend double the average monthly hours on billing and invoice reconciliation compared to organizations that are five times their size.

Additionally, the variability in time spent on these activities among different organizations surveyed indicates that certain organizations are accomplishing tasks more efficiently than others; which in turn implies that organizations that learn to leverage the platform more efficiently can reduce their true costs while maximizing productivity and value.
