San Antonio Workplace Injury Attorney at The Herrera Law Firm Comments on Oilfield Accident Burn Injury

Attorney Jorge Herrera of The Herrera Law Firm says burn injuries can be extremely painful and result in costly medical bills and long-term treatment.

These types of injuries are not only incredibly painful and can lead to emotional distress, but the expense of treating them can add up.

San Antonio work accident attorney Jorge Herrera today said a recent news report about an explosion at a job site in Karnes County illustrates how devastating an oilfield accident can be for workers.

Commenting on a Jan. 26 KSAT news article (“2 burned in Karnes County Explosion”), Herrera said burn injuries generally are among the most serious types of injuries people deal with in accidents.

“We’ve handled many cases involving catastrophic injuries, and burn injuries often are very severe,” said Herrera, an experienced attorney at The Herrera Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the two victims in this accident. These types of injuries are not only incredibly painful and can lead to emotional distress, but the expense of treating them can add up. We know that someone who suffers second or third degree burns typically requires hospital care and long-term treatment.”

According to KSAT, an accident involving two workers at Premier Tank Services occurred Jan. 26, 2015, on State Farm Road 99. A sheriff’s spokesman for Karnes County said two workers were using a cutting torch on a tanker truck when the tank exploded.

The men suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and were treated at San Antonio Military Medical Center, KSAT reported.

Herrera said the incident must be thoroughly investigated. While the injured workers may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits to pay for their medical treatment, other compensation may be available to cover other losses, Herrera said.

“Generally speaking, injured employees in Texas may be entitled to workers’ compensation if their employer has coverage. If that’s the case, the employee is entitled to receive lost income and medical benefits,” Herrera said. “Some employers in Texas choose not to purchase workers’ compensation insurance. In such cases, the injured worker may need to use the civil courts to obtain compensation.”

Herrera said workplace accidents in Texas can be complicated, which is why he recommends getting the advice of legal counsel as soon as possible.
