Former Old Skool Cafe Youth Graduates from USC with MA in Writing for Screen and Television
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 14, 2015 -- Former Old Skool Cafe youth, Tiffany Fuller, will achieve a goal she set as a child growing up in San Francisco’s tough Bayview district, by graduating with her Master of Arts in Writing for Screen and Television from University of Southern California’s Film School on Friday, May 15, 2015. Overcoming the barriers associated with living “down from the hood”, Tiffany credits Old Skool Cafe’s intervention in her life with the success she has achieved.
Founded by former juvenile corrections officer, Teresa Goines, and located in Bayview Hunters Point, Old Skool Cafe is a nonprofit youth-run supper club helping break the cycles of incarceration and poverty by providing valuable skills in the restaurant business as well as transferable life skills for long-term success through hands on training and mentorship. Goines’ knows education is a critical step in helping youth find opportunities out of poverty and giving hope for a successful future.
Tiffany credits her time at Old Skool and the support she received to helping her purse college and advanced training. “There were those that said I wouldn't graduate high school and then those that said I wouldn't go to college and those that said I wouldn't graduate college or get into the number one film school in the world or graduate from the number one film school in the world. Checkmate.”
"Getting to watch Tiffany follow her dreams and graduate with her Master's in the area that she is passionate about is better than winning the lottery. Tiffany was one of the first youth that I started Old Skool Cafe with when she was 16. I could not be more proud of her as I have had the privilege to journey with her all of these years and watch her grow into such a beautiful, strong and compassionate woman.” Ms. Goines attended Tiffany’s graduation from college in New York and will also be on hand to celebrate Tiffany’s accomplishment at USC’s Film School graduation on Friday.

Old Skool Cafe is a social enterprise known for its ‘40s supper club vibe, live entertainment, and a tasty Southern-inspired menu cooked up and served up by inspired (and inspiring) youth and young adults. Learning to be hosts, servers, chefs, managers, and entertainers, youth gain marketable skills, self-esteem, and progress toward career goals in an environment of restoration and hope. Participating youth serve up meals to more than 200 people every week .
Founded in 2005, Old Skool Cafe is open to the public Thursday through Saturday and available for private parties and catering. All profits support services to youth.
