Bellucci Premium Comments on Reports that the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Rich Mediterranean Diet Can Help Extend the Lifespan of Women
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- Bellucci Premium responds to an article that shares how recent studies on the effects of the Mediterranean diet have shown significant evidence towards improving health and extending the lifespan in women.
According to the Medical News Today article published on November 5th titled “Mediterranean diet linked to longer lifespan and better health,” women who adhere to a Mediterranean diet can ultimately avoid chronic diseases and live longer.
The diet consists mainly of foods that are abundant in the Mediterranean region of the world, such as Crete and Greece. Beans, seeds, fish and poultry are common in this diet. Olive oil is one source of healthy fat in the Mediterranean diet.
Although there have been many studies on the effects of the Mediterranean diet, researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health felt as though its benefits in the elderly had not been explored enough, according to the article.
The article shared how these researchers analyzed data from the Nurse’s Healthy Study, which involved dietary questionnaires from 10,670 women. “The women conducted a dietary questionnaire between 1984 and 1986. At the point of the questionnaire, all women were in their late 50s or early 60s,” says the article. 15 years later, the same group was asked to fill out an identical questionnaire.
“The results revealed that women who followed a Mediterranean diet, or a similar diet, had a 40% better chance of living past the age of 70, compared with those who did not follow the Mediterranean diet,” says the article.
“Due to the findings of reports such as this one, we at Bellucci Premium hope that people are encouraged to make a change in their diets to promote better health,” says Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for Bellucci Premium. “Since extra virgin olive oil is a main ingredient in the Mediterranean diet, it is also important to look at its health benefits. Extra virgin olive oil can help cognitive function, lower cholesterol and more.”
