Bellucci Premium comments on an ABC article that discusses proposed olive oil standards in Australia.
According to the ABC article published on October 8th titled, “Calls for mandatory Australian olive oil standard,” the federal parliament in Australia has been presented with a proposal for a new mandatory olive oil standard in the country.
Australia, which only has a voluntary standard at the moment, is hoping to get the support of politicians for new mandatory olive oil standard. The article quotes Paul Miller, the President of the Olive Association, who says that this standard is also gaining popularity in other places across the world, such as Japan and South Africa. “I've presented it in Japan, I've spent a lot of time in the USA working with the US industry, that seems to be copying what we are doing,” says Miller.
Miller believes that this standard could make a huge difference in the olive oil industry. “I think Australia can fairly say we've really raised the bar a little around the world with regard to olive oil,” says Miller.
“The push for higher standards of olive oil quality is evident all over the world,” says Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for Bellucci Premium. “Australia is just one example of a country that is dedicated to setting forth standards that will improve the quality of olive oil. We hope to see more effective standards become mandatory around the world.”
In the article, Miller finishes by stating how new standards will ultimately benefit the consumer. “The most important impact of that is that it will mean more consumers will get the real thing delivered to them, as labeled."
