Only 2.6% users choose e-commerce apps as most-used apps, but average usage in minutes is much higher

With a $3.5 trillion industry in only the United States, e-Commerce is expanding at a consistently rapid pace, encouraging major retailers and sellers to build an online marketplace. Here’s an interesting survey conducted by Simform that elaborates on user behaviour and the usage of e-Commerce apps.

The study reveals that although only 2.6% users chose e-Commerce as their most preferred app, all its users spent more time browsing products, resulting in higher in-app time compared to other categories.

A recent survey conducted by Simform found that 2.6% of users have e-commerce apps amongst their most-used apps. However, what makes this stat interesting is: users spend more time within this category as opposed to the most preferred categories– Social, Gaming, and Communication. Although users devote over 5 hours a week to these top categories, they still end up spending more time exploring products on shopping sites.

As we all know that usage of smartphones is increasing day by day, Simform decided to track the usage of 3756 mobile phone users aged 11 to 60 years for a month to analyze their smartphone behavior. They also made the participants take a 17 question survey about how they use mobile devices in their daily lives.

Simform’s detailed study found some interesting facts on how people use their smartphones in different conditions. Here are some exciting things we saw from their research:

1. How users hold phones largely depends on the surroundings:

Since users carry their mobile phones almost everywhere, they have started to hold their devices differently while opening doors, walking down the street, carrying a baby or things, etc.

2. More than 50% of users use their phones on the “washroom”:

It is no secret that smartphones are the favorite pastime while in the washroom. Additionally, 73% of users use their phones while having dinner, whereas 72% use them at work and 79% when with family/friends.

3. Millennials don’t even use half of the apps they have installed:

Millennials use around 25 common apps, out of average 67 apps installed on their smartphone. It was also seen that with the increase in age after 30s, there is a decrease in the number of apps used and the number of apps installed. Older people installed just above 20 apps and use around 5 apps daily.
