“This poetry book will remind people to better take care of their pets and children,” Smith says. “Most importantly, be a better person, love one another and enjoy life.”

Opal Smith admits that she wanted to write about real pets and their owners. In inspired her in writing the poetic book, “Laudy's New Home” (published by Xlibris in July of 2013) and is set for a new marketing campaign.

The Osgood family bought a large farm. They wanted to have pets. Two black cats, Midnight and Magic were kept on the farm for the new owners. Elder Master, Mistress and their young son Lance found a Beagle puppy in a pound nearby that is partly napping, lonesome and chubby. The family bought the pup and took him home. They named him Laudy and he thinks he finally found not just a home, but a family he can call his own.

An excerpt from the poem “First of Summer” reads:

I’ve learned to use the doggy door,
that’s brown and swings in and out
Lance goes to school five days a week
while I investigate out and about

“This poetry book will remind people to better take care of their pets and children,” Smith says. “Most importantly, be a better person, love one another and enjoy life.”
