Oregon’s Newest Online Public School Kicks Off Enrollment for 2019-2020 School Year
SCIO, Ore. (PRWEB) May 30, 2019 -- Willamette Connections Academy (WillCA), Oregon’s newest statewide online public charter school, is now enrolling students in grades K-12 for the 2019-2020 school year. Willamette Connections Academy will offer a safe, supportive, flexible online learning option to meet the needs of the modern student, giving families the ability to customize and monitor their student’s education.
“We’re excited to enroll students and engage with their families ahead of the 2019-20 school year,” said Timothy Hyre, Willamette Connections Academy Board President. “We look forward to offering students a personalized approach to education, giving them the opportunity to reach their highest academic potential while also providing them with the flexibility to pursue outside passions and activities.”
Willamette Connections Academy will meet the needs of a variety of students throughout Oregon seeking an innovative, individualized approach to education. A 2019 Connections Academy parent survey revealed the top reasons parents enroll their students in a Connections Academy school included a desire for flexibility (48%), dissatisfaction with their local school (37%), a safe environment (36%), more involvement with their child’s education (25%), to avoid bullying (23%), and to accommodate their child’s health issues (17%).
Willamette Connections Academy students will be able to access lessons and connect with their highly-qualified Oregon certified teachers anywhere there is an Internet connection. Students will also regularly attend real-time online classroom sessions, called LiveLessons®, where they can interact with their teacher and classmates just as they would in a traditional classroom.
A “Learning Coach”, usually a parent or other trusted adult, helps to monitor student progress in the home. Willamette Connections Academy teachers will work closely with students and Learning Coaches to develop personalized learning plans and provide additional support to meet each student’s unique needs.
Willamette Connections Academy will utilize the award-winning Connections Academy® program and rigorous standards-aligned curriculum, allowing students to move through assignments at their own pace. In addition to core subjects, curriculum includes a wide range of electives, Gifted and Talented and honors classes, college prep, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.
Outside of classes, students will be able to socialize through a number of in-person school-organized field trips as well as online clubs and activities.
Families interested in learning more about Willamette Connections Academy and the enrollment process are invited to attend an upcoming online information session. To find out more about the sessions or Willamette Connections Academy, call 800-382-6010 or visit the school’s website.
