The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department have revealed reports of a number of Eurasian collared doves that tested positive for Pigeon Paramyxovirus-1 recently. Keep birds from coming near homes and businesses with Bird-X bird deterrent devices.

Doves near El Paso, Texas have tested positive for avian paramyxovirus, with more dead doves reported in Alpine, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. While there is no risk to dogs and cats, this virus can be contracted by humans, causing conjunctivitis (pink eye). Hand and eye protection is essential when professionals handle infected birds.

To keep hazardous droppings away from domesticated birds such as outdoor chickens, chicken keepers can use bird netting to keep doves and pigeons out. Bird netting is a 100% effective, low-profile, and long-lasting solution against pest birds. Made from durable polyethylene resin, Bird-X bird netting comes in a variety of sizes, from small 25x25’ cuts to 100x14’, as well as custom sizing for any project. Two hole widths are available: 0.75 inch and 0.50 inch. For larger and more commercial spaces, netting is an ideal solution as well. Bird-X works closely with professional installers and pest control operators across the country on netting projects of all sizes.

The humane bird control company Bird-X, Inc. also manufactures silent-to-humans bird deterrent devices that repel birds with ultrasonic frequencies that are harmless yet very bothersome to birds. The devices are directional, so they can be placed high on a roof to target birds perching atop rooves, fences, and more. These products create an unwelcoming environment for birds, and condition them to stay away from the treated area.
