Over Half of British Winter Sport Holidaymakers Say Travel Insurance Tech Would Make Them Appy
A healthy majority (58%) of the British public who have been on or are planning to go on a winter sports holiday say a smartphone app using geo-location capable of checking travel cover and making recommendations in real time would be useful. The findings form part of a new YouGov survey into travel insurance and winter sports, commissioned by global travel tech specialist, Aquarium Software.
MANCHESTER, England, Oct. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A healthy majority (58%) of the British public who have been on or are planning to go on a winter sports holiday say a smartphone app using geo-location capable of checking travel cover and making recommendations in real time would be useful. The findings form part of a new YouGov survey into travel insurance and winter sports, commissioned by global travel tech specialist, Aquarium Software.
The poll of over 2,000 adults envisaged an app that if you landed in Geneva, for example, could send you a reminder to ensure you had adequate winter sports cover; the results are being taken as another tick in the box for our seemingly endless love affair with smartphone technology.
"The good news for winter sports lovers and travellers in general is that such apps are no longer science fiction," said Aquarium Software Director, Mark Colonnese. "Increasing numbers are finding pay as you go insurance an attractive option, but it does rely on consumers remembering what additional cover they may need. But now, apps like the ones we are developing can suggest types and levels of cover based on your location and likely activities in that location," he added.
"Forgetting to have specific cover for things such as winter sports will become a thing of the past. Are you snowboarding in Geneva, not just skiing? Check your policy, you may need to pay a few pounds more for comprehensive snowboard cover - and be careful if you like to venture off-piste; is this in fact covered on your policy, or an add-on? It can only be a good thing for all concerned if reports of travellers falling foul of inadequate cover are consigned to the history books," concluded Colonnese.
For those who imagine such technology only applies to 'male geeks', far more women identified such an app as useful, at 65 percent (versus 53 percent of men); while among those planning a winter holiday in the next twelve months, 69 percent agreed such an app would be useful.
