George Ionita recognized for work in driving the next generation of video supply chain leaders

I am honored to be recognized for the exciting work I’ve done with OWNZONES in creating fully cloud-native solutions for media encoding and delivery.

George Ionita, CTO, Europe, at OWNZONES Entertainment Technologies, the video supply chain built in the cloud, was named “Innovator of the Year” as part of Cablefax’s 2019 Tech Awards. The award recognizes Ionita’s work in elevating the adoption of Interoperable Master Format (IMF) and enhancing cloud-based workflows for production and media encoding and delivery.

Cablefax’s “Innovator of the Year” award showcases individuals who demonstrate innovative, creative problem-solving that positively impacts business results. With Ionita’s guidance, OWNZONES is reducing the need for multiple file formats and resource-heavy video files. Furthermore, his team’s work is enabling backwards-compatibility playback to future-proof content libraries. Ionita’s contributions involved creating systems for transforming ProRes files -- the industry standard for master files -- into IMF, and enabling live previewing of production and distribution master files on demand, directly from the cloud.

“I am honored to be recognized for the exciting work I’ve done with OWNZONES in creating fully cloud-native solutions for media encoding and delivery,” said Ionita. “Following an iterative development cycle and team-based approach, we’ve led an aggressive development pace to automate and optimize repetitive tasks and processes and unlock the innovation potential of our customers with a solution that puts them at the forefront of content creation and distribution.”

In March, OWNZONES launched its FrameDNA solution, an artificial intelligence-driven tool focused on analyzing content and identifying structural similarities to streamline content versioning. By leveraging FrameDNA in combination with the platform’s IMF capabilities, OWNZONES clients are able to componentize and consolidate large swaths of content for simpler distribution across geographies and markets.

“George’s gift as a product developer and vision as a leader have been pivotal to our success,” said Dan Goman, CEO of OWNZONES. “Thanks to his passion and eye for efficiency, OWNZONES is effectively ushering in the next generation of video supply chain management and revolutionizing media archiving and distribution.”

The 2019 Tech Awards recognize the outstanding products, strategy, implementation, and people in broadcast, cable and digital technology. Honorees were celebrated at an Awards Networking Event on June 6, 2019 at the Yale Club during Cablefax’s Celebration of Leadership Gala.
