Pat Linkhorn Sheds Light On Disability Advocacy in New Book
CUMBERLAND, Ohio (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- Author Pat Linkhorn is uniquely experienced when it comes to disability services, having raised two daughters with disabilities and having worked within the special needs educational system. In her new book, “Off the Fence: Disability Advocacy” (published by iUniverse), Linkhorn blends her dual perspectives to shed light on the world of disabilities and how society reacts to and treats those with special needs.
“I want parents to know that they are not alone and to understand how they can advocate for their children,” Linkhorn says. “I want professionals to understand how parents feel and I want to help them deal with parents in a better, more proactive way.”
In “Off the Fence,” Linkhorn shares personal stories, keeping them generic so as to appeal to parents of children with all types of disabilities. She also offers tips on how to advocate for special needs children and how to work effectively with the special needs educational system.
“My book will appeal to readers because I am a parent of children with disabilities who also worked within the system and has had the advantage of seeing how the system works from the inside,” Linkhorn says. “I am no longer working so I don’t have to worry that my job will be jeopardized because of what I’ve written. I tell two real sides of the story.”
