Patriots Defeat Saints, Boston Sports Rally. NFL tickets available at Ticket Monster
(PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- Boston sports fans had quite the evening on Sunday, October 13th. Two great players. Two clutch performances. Two victories. The Boston Red Sox had a grand slam by David Ortiz in the 8th to tie the game, then Jarrod Saltalamacchia delivered a walk-off single to win game 2 of the ALCS, and avoid being down by 2 in the series.
21 miles away in Foxboro, Boston’s finest Tom Brady of the New England Patriots put on a little show of his own. The Patriots, who are now 5-1, beat the New Orleans Saints to avoid another loss, and also gave the Saints their first loss of the season. Between the Patriots loss in Cincinnati last week, and the beginning of his performance on Sunday, it was not looking pretty. Social media was buzzing about the probable loss two weeks in a row, and the stadium seats were emptying fast. Until Brady did it again. In 8 plays, over 70 yards, and 73 seconds, Tom Brady threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Kenbrell Thompkins for the win. Just when spectators and fans were thinking this might be it for Brady, he proves everyone wrong.
To give a quick synopsis of that final 70-yard drive, it began with three completed passes to Edelman, Collie, and Dobson, with no time outs. Austin Collie’s first game with the Patriots was on Sunday night, and his first time on the field was during that drive. Talk about a good first impression. After the three completed passes, Brady missed two that were intended for Edelman, but Collie made the catch on the fourth down to keep the Pats alive. And then that is when the touchdown came.
New England did move the ball well in the first half. Brady completed 16 of 22 for 163 yards, and they were ahead in the third quarter by 10 points, but they did struggle to make ends meet. The team’s defense did well, as they forced the Saints to punt on four of their five first half possessions. In the fourth quarter, New Orleans rallied to tie the game, then took the lead. Down 27-23, the Patriots finally made some magic as Brady completed that touchdown pass to Thompkins and won the game, 30-27. That touchdown pass was Brady’s first of the game, and came with 5 seconds left. The Bengals broke Brady’s 52-game touchdown streak last week, when they also handed the Patriots their first lost of the season.
Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints finished 17 of 36 for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He was, until Sunday, 3-0 against Brady and the Patriots in his career. The last time the two met was back in 2009, when Brees had one of the best games of his life. It was a Monday night in the Superdome, and Brees had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 while throwing for 371 yards and five touchdowns.

Top Ten Plays from Sunday: Beating out a beautiful bicycle-kick goal by Mexico to save their World Cup dreams, Tom Brady’s touchdown pass came in at the number two best play. Guessed Ortiz’s grand slam was number one? Then you would be right.
SportsCenter Twitter: “Crazy stat of the day: The probability of both the Patriots AND Red Sox coming back to win yesterday was 0.2%”.
The New England Patriots will face the New York Jets next Sunday, October 20th. The Jets are currently 3-3, and in 3rd place in the AFC West.
