West Palm Beach Pedestrian Accident Lawyer Charles E. Cartwright Comments On Dangerous Intersections
West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- West Palm Beach pedestrian accident lawyer Charles E. Cartwright of Gonzalez & Cartwright, P.A., today said drivers need to be extra cautious at dangerous intersections in South Florida to reduce the risk of serious accidents.
Cartwright commented on a news report detailing an increase in the number of pedestrian accidents near the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and North Military Trail. According to News Channel 5 (“Pedestrian killed in suburban West Palm Beach,” October 1), the most recent accident near that intersection happened in early October and claimed the life of an elderly man.
“Unfortunately, tragic accidents near or at this busy West Palm Beach intersection have become all-too-common over the last two years,” said Cartwright, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “With the dangers of the intersection well-documented, it’s the responsibility of drivers to look out for pedestrians. We urge everyone to drive cautiously at all times, but especially at intersections.”
The News Channel 5 report said that the recent accident happened after the elderly man was struck by a Toyota Corolla just before 8 p.m. It was the latest in a string of accidents on Okeechobee Boulevard between Congress Avenue and the Florida Turnpike.
Citing statistics from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, News Channel 5 reported that close to 1,000 accidents have occurred in the area surrounding the intersection within the past eighteen months. This includes 87 hit-and-run accidents without injuries, 663 traffic accidents without injuries, nine hit-and-run accidents with injuries and 99 traffic accidents with injuries. The Sheriff’s Office stated that many of these accidents involved pedestrians, according to the news report.
“This fatal accident is the latest in a string of accidents near this dangerous intersection at Okeechobee Boulevard, and we hope the state takes action to protect people using this intersection. Drivers also must do their part and use extra caution. Slow down, avoid all distractions and keep an eye out for pedestrians,” Cartwright said.
Cartwright said personal injury lawyers can help pedestrians injured in accidents pursue compensation for their losses. An attorney also can help send a message that negligent behavior will not be tolerated in South Florida.
